Moutain Savory

Satureja montana

Mountain savory (Satureja montana), also known as winter savory, is an annual perennial plant in the Lamiaceae family. Native to the Mediterranean and the Near East, it has woody stems at the base, narrow grey leaves, small fragrant flowers and leathery, shiny leaves. This small herbaceous perennial plant is 20 to 40 centimetres long. Along with thyme, rosemary and marjoram, it is one of the four ”herbes de Provence” under the local and familiar name of ”poivre d’âne”.

Main aromatic molecules: Monoterpene phenols (carvacrol, thymol), monoterpenes (α and γ-terpinenes, paracymene), monoterpenols.
Family: Lamiaceae.
Producing organs : Aerial parts.
Yield: 250g of essential oil per 100kg of plant.
Equivalence: 1ml → 30 drops (dosage calculated for a calibrated European Pharmacopoeia dropper).
